Syd Barrett, Dead at the age of 60

Post by Blabberpuss »

Died 7 July... Shine on you Crazy Diamond.
... like a speeding car with jammed door locks, cut brake lines, a dead steering wheel, and air vents that pump nitrous oxide. Everyone is dimly aware the country is heading for the edge of a cliff, but no one can muster the energy to search for alternatives.

RIP SYD

Remember when you were young, you shone like the sun.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Now there's a look in your eyes, like black holes in the sky.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
You were caught on the crossfire of childhood and stardom,
blown on the steel breeze.
Come on you target for faraway laughter,
come on you stranger, you legend, you martyr, and shine!
You reached for the secret too soon, you cried for the moon.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Threatened by shadows at night, and exposed in the light.
Shine on you crazy diamond.
Well you wore out your welcome with random precision,
rode on the steel breeze.
Come on you raver, you seer of visions,
come on you painter, you piper, you prisoner, and shine!

Just gotta remember to drill a hole in your head once in a while to let all the smoke escape.

Or take so many drugs you can't even remember what your name is.
That is pretty much why he was ousted from Pink Floyd.
He had decided that the more drugs he took (mainly LSD I believe) the better he was. Or he would continiously be in an out of body experience or something.

Although he was an influence in the early years (before 1970 or thereabouts) he wasn't the one who really made the group shine.

That would be the combination of Roger Waters and David Gilmour.

The Roger Waters, Pink Floyd break came from Waters being a real megalomaniac (did I spell that right?) with pretty much the attitude that he was the band and the rest were his backup.

You ever get the chance, locate and read the book written about them.

It's pretty interesting.

Even though,

RIP Syd. May you have found that out of body experience you were looking for bro.

Shine on.
