Very nice, CW!!
Now, what are you going to do with a score like that, be...a doctor, an engineer, a Sony Dev?

Grats CW! No, National Merit Scholars have to score well on the PSAT which is the National Merit Scholar Qualifying Test (So it's sometimes called the PSATNMSQT, or peesat nimsquat). With a score like that, however, he has a very good chance of meeting the NMSQT requirements of the PSAT, but it varies from state to state.

How do I know all of this, you ask? Pure unadulterated bitterness. I was never informed that the PSAT was also the NMSQT until after I got my results...and was *one point* shy of being a National Merit Scholar. This, I contest, is because I went in thinking "So...it's just the *pre* SAT?" I was told it was to "determine how well you'll do on the SAT" and so I was like "why do I care about that?" I didn't get enough sleep, I didn't do any prep, I didn't study. Nothing.

But, I'm obviously over that...

Grats CW!! Not bad...but one piece of advice on these test scores, they allow you more opportunity, but by no means should they be a measure of your life. And do not allow yourself to feel a failure if you decide not to become a doctor or an engineer or whatever high-paying job is associated with intelligence. I got a 35 on the math portion and I my degree is in high school English Education! Yet, there have been those I graduated with that somehow see me as not having lived up to my full potential. What matters are your goals and whether or not you live up to your own expectations and to those of the important people around you.

Best of luck out there!

For Sitt ~
National Merit Scholar is actually a designation that is given when a sophomore takes the PSAT and scores well. It is a very good distinction to have and allows students to receive all kinds of scholarship money.
