I'm expecting serious flames for this, but so be it.

I basically ask myself why?!? every time that we go to do the OMM event. I understand we have a strat and we "need to learn it/practice it" but I basically see OMM as a major waste of our time in my opinion. We don't have anywhere near the hp/mana/dps to withstand a fight of this caliber, and I think just avoiding the event altogether until it is actually feasible to practice it would save us all a lot of time, stress, and plat for summoning stones. This is a VERY long fight, and basically, I don't see us even touching OMM most times we try him, let alone getting him to 80% where the fun really starts to begin. We're not getting great practice when we don't drop him below 90%.

Let me reitirate the fact that this is my opinion, and I don't make the decisions here, but I for one know I won't be sticking around to attempt OMM. I could be better spending that window of time doing other things, and I'd prefer to keep my buffs.

Just a little bit of perspective: Only Reviction and Magister have beaten OMM on E-Marr, and AV just beat him tonight. And there's still 3 guilds that seperates us from AV. OMM is still the hardest mob in the game.

/e waits for the flames.

We've attempted OMM exactly 2 times as of this posting, the first being when we killed AMV the very first time, and the second being tonight. (which btw was our first serious attempt) At this point in time, I'm inclined to agree that OMM is just outside our current range of mobs we can kill without a flawless effort from start to finish run with perfect class mix and absolutely no mistakes...another month or 2 down the line, and we just may be in position to take that step without needing all of those things. It may happen sooner, but we won't know that we can win unless we try him, and yes...deaths and summoning corpses are just factors that we will have to face and deal with just like learning and overcoming any other encounter.

We're almost to the point where we can consistently beat Keldovan, Ture, Hanvar, and the Tormentor ring in a single night, soon we may even be able to add AMV to that and make Anguish a single night afffair, farming 5 named per night and going back every 5th or 6th day. The more drops we farm, the better off the guild will be, and the sooner we can beat this expansion, but patience is the key as always.

does anyone have the link for the audio warning when we need to click the mask?

I have a sound on it, but I'd rather have the words. From reading the strat, sounds like they exist somewhere.

As Beldarr pointed out last night was exactly the 2nd, yes, just the 2nd, time we tried OMM. And the first time, it was late at night, after finishing AMV, and we had no strat but decided for a lark to pull him.

So last night was our first serious attempt at him, and, on the pull we wound up with him and his guards, and the event was over quickly. Being that we have yet to have a good, serious attempt at him, and have only tried him two times, I find it surprising you have such a defeatist attitude about the event. Had we tried 7, 10, 15 times, and wiped, and it was clear from our attempts that it wasnt getting the strat down, or mistakes of ours, but that we didnt have the gear to do this, then yes, I could understand.

But 1 serious attempt, which took all of 30 minutes, does not, to me at least, seem like a waste of time. And we certainly have not gauged where we stand relative to beating OMM based on this attempt, certainly not enough so to say with certainty that we cannot do this. OMM is, in part, a learning curve, and I highly doubt many if any guilds beat it the first, second or even third time they attempted him. Or maybe your expectations are a little high for us after our recent successes in Texvu, Tacvi and CoA. :)

We are not a mandatory raiding guild, and of course you need not participate in any raid that you don't want to. But a number of us like to try new challenges, new mobs, new content. Farming mobs is great - it helps us gear up and power up, but occassionally, we like to continue to mix in new mobs and progression mobs. And yes, we will wipe to those mobs (i.e., non-farming mobs) until we learn to beat them. That's the nature of the game. If you don't want to die, or go through the experience of learning the mob or the event with us, then by all means, you can wait until we beat it and it's in farm mode and then join on farm raids for loot. Again, I'll reiterate, we are a non-mandatory raiding guild, and no one needs to attend any raid they don't want to.

Note however, that we often give extra dkp for progression events and first time kills (like the extra dkp that will be awarded for those that participated on the OMM attempt last night). Frankly though, for me, the extra dkp isn't why I like to try events like OMM - rather, it's the challenge of beating a new mob, learning and refining a strat, and doing it with my guildmates. If I have to eat a few deaths, rez a few corpses, and learn from mistakes a few times, well, that's what ultimately makes the thrill of the victory all that more satisfying.

I don't know, I don't see it as expectations, but more as we need to be realistic. I just personally believe that until we're capable of at least getting to the point where we only need to work out the kinks of the strat and know we don't have to worry too much about gear and such would make for a much more wholesome and worthwhile try.

I am kind of just more upset at the fact that a portion of the members of this guild probably have little to no knowledge about this event, and by running through the strat in full and saying "when we win" etc etc is really just giving everyone a false sense of hope.

The guilds that beat him did so long after they could clear/farm CoA in a single night. I love the way this guild has progressed, I am proud and happy to be a member of its ranks, but I just think that the raid time could be better spent helping the guild improve elsewhere (i.e. Aug runs, Epic fights, etc.). And yes, I am aware of the lockouts.

Go MLF :)

I will say this, we will continue to see and try OMM as we get to him. He is right there and taking 30 minutes is not a waste of time, especially because we already are there (repeat)

Now as stated last night was our true first attempt and we would have done alot better but had a bad pull.

For us to beat OMM it will take multipel tries and countless headaches to get it right. We will need to have the right pulls for it. We will need our shamans and chanters with their right spells for it. We will need people to have cure potions and heal potions.

And just like moving through many events in the past, this one is hard and not many guilds on this server have beat it and yet they still continue to try.

If you dont want to come, then dont come, no biggie but realize that when we do beat him or get to that point you will have missed the true bragging rights to say I beat him because you missed all the work and time spent to get there.

It's not every day I get to wipe a raid so we can do this ever week if we want. =)

I have no problem trying this every time we do anguish. Speak's view is not defeatist imo since I believe he's correct. We won't beat OMM until we have farmed a LOT more and have everyones undivided attention.

Too many are still dying during Ture, Jelvan, and AMV not to mention the deaths we have during Tacvi. Tacvi should also be a one night raid.

With that said, I think it's a good idea to pull him once and a while and see where we stand on the process. Last nights attempt wasn't much of an attempt since pathing totally screwed me and then the rest of you.

I do apologize for that pull last night. I know better on a new pull. I guess I was just tired.

People saying we can't beat stuff, why do we even try, buggs the every loving hell out of me.

Look at all the things we have done that people said we couldn't do.

They said we couldn't beat GoD as no guild had ever beaten it before they were in anguish. We are also the first guild that walked in and slapped down Texvu and Tacvi both easily.
They said we can't beat RSS, Rikki, Yar Lir, Kassandra, etc.

We routinally beat things that people say we can't do, don't even try. When we are on the ball very little can stop us.
I for one will be at every OOM raid that I can manage to be off work for.
Part of the fun I have in this game is pitting myself, and my friends, against stuff that is making ourselves be the best we can be. And the thrill of beating it for the first time.

How many of you remember us standing in line for attempts at RZ? How many times did we wipe to him before beating him. Same with Bert, and many other encounters.
We will beat him, and before many think we can. It will just take a bit of trying and wanting to.

OMM adds an extra 15 minutes or so after AMV. Folks are free to leave. Those who stay will learn the event and help us beat it quicker down the road (if rez stone cash is holding anyone back, give me a shout and I will happily cover the costs).

One note: We have not wiped to OMM so far due to a lack of gear - we have wiped due to it being unfamiliar. By spending a few minutes a week on this we will be better prepared to beat the event when we have the gear to do it. To me, that seems preferable to waiting 2 months or more for the gear to do it only to wipe endlesslessly then due to our ignorance - now that is frustrating.

Everyone gets something different out of raiding. I am not much of a min/maxer. For me, it's not about the gear or efficiency - it's about that enormous rush that occurs when we defeat an event against the odds, be it due to low numbers, lack of gear, bad class mix, a horrid start, or whatever. This said, I can understand folks not wanting to endure the pain and bailing to do something else - no biggie. I will be smacking OMM every chance I get, though.

I have not seen anything resembling an "official" audio trigger for this event, but you can easily make one here.

This is gonna be the last time I post, cause I don't want this to bug me or any of you any further.

First off, I wish you would all take the time to actually read my posts in full, since most of you seem to garner from my posts that all I said was we can't beat OMM.

Secondly, a lot more of you seem to not either know or comprehend this event as much as I thought you did. I'm sorry Ren, but this is no Yar`lir, Rikki, Kessdona, or Tacvi fight. OMM is, as I've said, the hardest mob in the game. I have seen and participated in my fair share of OMM fights. We could kill DPoB mobs sooner than we will kill OMM.

We have not wiped to OMM so far due to a lack of gear - we have wiped due to it being unfamiliar.

Thirdly, not sure we've only wiped becuase we don't quite know what we're doing. Once we learn it, then we can wipe to a lack of gear?

Lastly, I'll bring this back to everyone's lack of reading what I said. I am not upset over us trying this event, I'm upset that our members are being led to have a false sense of hope. Please, spare us the "when we win" comments.
